You’re Formatting Your Book Wrong
Self-published authors lose so much credibility in the details. That’s why we’re here to remind you that formatting isn’t just about making your book “look nice.” It’s what separates an amateur upload from a professional book.
Here’s a quick guide on how to format your books correctly:
Fonts: Pick your hierarchy (Title, Headings, Subtitles, Body, Quotes, Bio). Stay consistent.
Uniformity: Keep margins clean, text justified, lines evenly spaced, and page numbers in the same spot throughout. Keep all text in one box. No stacking paragraphs in separate frames.
Bleeds: Stretch images slightly past the trim (0.5–1cm).
Author Bio: Line 1 bold (your name), line 2 italics (role + business), line 3 your credentials, line 4 your handle + website.
Publisher Layout: First pages matter. Logo, title page, copyright, dedication, contents, and blank pages all have a sequence. Follow it.
Copyright Page: Year, rights, edition, trademarks, bulk orders, ISBN.
Readers, publishers, and retailers expect professional formatting. Now you know how. So, keep your files neat, name your chapters clearly, and treat your manuscript like the luxury product it is.
